NITA-U launches E-Government Excellence Awards 2021

On 1st December 2021, the National Technology Authority – Uganda (NITA-U) launched the NITA E-Government Awards at Kampala Serena Hotel, under the theme “Bold Digital Government: Embracing disruptive technologies”.

The awards will be given to outstanding various government agencies in recognition of the roles they are playing in engaging the public to access government entities online.

The celebrations are taking a two-week period and are loaded with an e-government exhibition that took place on Friday, 3rd December 2021 at Uchumi Garden City rooftop where Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) showcased their e-services. The event attracted various parties in both private and public sectors including Telecom and Fintech companies.

Exhibited Items include; Building Industry Management System, e-TAX PORTAL, Online HR System, NMS+CSSP(Client Self Service Portal, National Single Registry for Social Protection (NSR), License Management System, Uganda Driver’s License System and Covid-19 Travel Permit Clearance System and many more.

All these are from different agencies and ministries including National Building Review Board, Uganda Revenue Authority, National Medical Stores, Ministry of Gender, Labor and Social Development, among others.

This exhibition’s main aim was to showcase the past and the future in digital governance.

During the launch, NITA-U Executive Director, Hatwib Mugasa said, “It’s important that we have these awards, at a crucial time when the knowledge that technology adoption is both the present and the future of humanity’s well-being is undisputable. We have witnessed ICT play a pivotal role in averting the effects of this pandemic. The COVID-19 crisis presents us with an opportunity to explore these innovations and accelerate efforts to bring, not only Government services online, but also incorporate technology into every endeavor that it has the prospect of enriching”

”The awards present an opportunity to share experiences. With various government entities across the country. With a vision of innovative administrative access to information and enhanced service delivery to citizens” Mugasa added.

The celebrations will finalize with a gala Where all top ministries and government agencies are going to be recognized for the roles they are playing in promoting E-government. The awards are organized by NITA-U in partnership with World Bank Group, Huawei, Ernst and Young host.
