Sakala joined Scottish Premiership champions Rangers midway through this year and he has quickly become an important cog in their machine, with his pace and eye for goal adding a new dimension to their attack.
The 24-year-old started his career in Zambia with Nchanga Rangers and Zanaco, before heading to Europe in 2018 to feature for Spartak Moscow (Russia) and KV Oostende (Belgium).
Sakala took some time to settle in Glasgow, but he gave Rangers fans a taste of his talent when he scored a hat-trick in a 6-1 win over Motherwell in late October.
“I am getting there in terms of being settled. I have been at the club for a few months now and I wouldn’t say I am fully settled but I am certainly getting there,”Sakala explained. “I know I just have to keep on working extra hard and try and make a positive contribution to the group. That’s the most important thing for me.
“Is there more to come from me? Yes I believe there’s more to come from me. I haven’t reached the level I want to get to yet and I have to keep believing in myself and working hard.”
Sakala also recently translated his club form to the international stage, netting a hat-trick for the Zambian national team in their 4-0 victory over Mauritania in World Cup Qualifiers – though ultimately Chipolopolo missed out on advancing further on the road to Qatar 2022.
“For me, I think I am very proud of the victory more than the hat-trick itself. I am very proud of the result,” the forward said after the big win for Zambia. “I was not looking for a hat-trick but looking for a result to make the people of Zambia happy. When I came, I said that I was here to make the people of Zambia happy because sport is one of the things that unites us.”
The Chipata-born player will now look to take his form into Rangers’ final UEFA Europa League group stage clash, which sees them face French heavyweights Olympique Lyon away from home on Thursday 9 December, a match you can see LIVE on SuperSport Premier League and SuperSport GOtv Football.
