National Rally Championship: Sodo, Navigator Survive Accident

President, Yoweri Museveni‘s brother, Godfrey Aine Kaguta alias Sodo has survived a nasty accident in the ongoing National Rally Championship-NRC.

Sodo was driving with his navigator Derrick Lubambula when their Mitsubishi EVO9 Registration number UAV 889Z overturned several times and crashed in the neighboring garden in Butapa village in Buyanga sub-county in Bugweri district on Saturday morning.

Sodo came out safely while Lubambula survived with serious injuries and was rushed to an unidentified health facility for treatment.

The Busoga East Region Traffic Police Officer, Caroline Angelo, confirmed the incident and told journalists that she supervised the process of towing off the wreckage from the accident scene but declined to divulge details of the matter.

Alfred Mutanda, the clerk of the course in the National Rally Championship, said that all participating teams were briefed to keep safe because of the muddy roads along the route.

Mutanda, however, says that they have so far presided over a successful rally championship without severe accidents being registered both by the drivers and spectators.

The championship, which was organized by the Central motor club in conjunction with Kaliro sugar and other partners has attracted 34 drivers from different parts of the country.

This event winds up the NRC calendar, with the national champion expected to be declared Sunday evening after finalizing all the routes.
