Kiplimo Wins Gold At World Cross Country Championship

Uganda Long-distance runner Jacob Kiplimo on Saturday won the Regional Cross Country Championships in Bathurst, Australia.

The 2022 Commonwealth double Gold medalist, comfortably secured the 10km race victory in 29:17.02. He was followed by Aragawi Bet from Ethiopia who crossed the finishing line in 29:27.99.

Joshua Cheptegei bagged Bronze after he came third in 29:38.01.

Kiplimo escaped at 9.5km to win gold for Uganda in the senior 10km men’s category at the world athletics event.

Meanwhile, Beatrice Chebet from Kenya won the senior women’s category after crossing the finishing line at 34:02.67.

In 2017, Jacob Kiplimo the then aged 16, became the first Ugandan to win a gold medal at the World Cross Country Championships when he put up a great performance on home soil.

The teenage athlete sent the ubiquitous home crowd into wild celebrations at the end of the U20 men’s race when he broke the finish line with a time of 22.40 minutes to secure gold at Kololo airstrip.

Ethiopia’s Amdework Walelegn took silver while Kenya’s Kimunyan settled for bronze.
