Cheptegei to Compete in Rome Diamond League

Ugandan long-distance runner, Joshua Cheptegei has announced his participation in the Diamond League Golden Gala in Italy. 

The event is scheduled for June 2, and he is expected to face stiff competition from Kenyan athletes Nicholas Kipkorir Kimeli and Rodgers Kwemoi Chumo as well as Ethiopia’s Selemon Barega and Yomif Kejelcha. 

Cheptegei recently finished third in the New York City Half Marathon and is now focused on the 2023 World Championships, which will take place in Budapest, Hungary. 

According to Cheptegei, the Diamond League is an essential part of his preparation for the championships and will help him gauge his fitness level before the event. 

Addy Ruiter, Cheptegei’s training coach, notes that their current training program emphasizes speed and speed endurance, with the goal of optimizing the athlete’s performance in upcoming track competitions. 

Aside from preparing for the World Championships, Cheptegei will also be vying for the Diamond League’s top prize of $60,000. Given his impressive track record, his fans worldwide will no doubt be eagerly following his performance in Rome.
