UPDF Hands Over ADF Captives to DRC

The Uganda People’s Defence Forces – UPDF on Saturday handed over 34 Congolese nationals who were rescued from Allied Democratic Forces-ADF rebel camps in the Democratic Republic of Congo-DRC.

They were handed over to officials from DRC on Saturday by the UPDF Land Forces Commander Lt Gen Kayanja Muhanga at Muhooti Barracks in Fort Portal.

Muhanga says that the captives were rescued from the camps during fighting with the ADF. The captives included women and children.

He adds that among the captives rescued were three Ugandans.

The Congolese nationals were received by Brig Gen Antoine Gbiagolo Ngondo on behalf of the Congolese government.

Operation Shujja Commander Maj Gen Dick Olumu, it is a matter of time before the  ADF is defeated because the UPDF and Congolese Army have captured several of the ADF major camps.

In November 2021, the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) and the Congolese army launched a joint operation against the ADF in Eastern Congo.

In December last year, over 40 ADF rebels attacked villages in Ntoroko district and killed three civilians however according to UPDF  17 rebels were killed, 13 were captured, and over 17 guns were recovered during the attack.
