Earlier today, Hon. Ruth Nankabirwa Ssentamu, the Minister of Energy & Mineral Development (MEMD) officiated the groundbreaking ceremony of the Karuma (600MW) HPP Community Development Action Program (CDAP) works at Purongo Primary School, Nwoya District.

The UGX 3 billion project includes the construction of 2 classroom blocks with an office, 4 staff houses and 4 stance VIP latrines at each of the following schools; Nora Primary School in Oyam, Purongo Primary School in Nwoya and Diima Primary School in Kiryandongo, Oyam & Nwoya Districts

CDAP is a program by Government of Uganda designed to mitigate the increased pressure on local social infrastructure, social services & livelihoods that arose from the implementation and construction of Karuma HPP in the affected areas of Kiryandongo, Oyam & Nwoya Districts.

“Purongo Primary School was founded by the Roman Catholic Church in 1956 and currently has a population of 716 learners. Building new classroom blocks will help us accommodate more pupils,” said Mr. Odong Boniface Ochan, the Headmaster, Purongo P/S.
