Thomas Tayebwa Elected Deputy Speaker of Parliament

Member of Parliament for Ruhinda County, Mitoma District, Thomas Tayebwa has on Friday been elected as the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, replacing Anita Among who resigned after she was voted Speaker of Parliament.

In an election that was conducted at Kololo Ceremonial grounds, Tayebwa garnered 379 votes, while his opponent, Okot P’Bitek the MP for Kyoga County got 82 votes.

Tayebwa resigned from his position as Government Chief Whip after he was endorsed by his party the National Resistance Movement (NRM) to carry the flag for the party in the elections.
