Suspicious Object Cleared Along Entebbe Expressway

The Entebbe expressway is now open and safe for public use, the police have announced, moments after the bomb squad temporarily closed it to clear an object suspected to be a bomb.

Kampala Metropolitan Police Traffic Commander Kauma Nsereko earlier said that the Bomb Squad was carrying out investigations and asked road users to use the old Entebbe Road.

“This is to inform all road users who are using Entebbe Expressway that there’s an investigation going on along the Expressway. You are therefore requested to use the Old Entebbe Road to the City and to Entebbe for the time being,” he said.

Moments later, the Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire said that officers stopped the traffic flow in order to evacuate the object safely. He added that the object was removed and the Expressway was cleared thereafter for Public use.

“We would also like to thank the public for their patience and cooperation during the brief traffic disruption caused by the evacuation of the abandoned object. Our officers worked tirelessly to ensure the safety of everyone involved,” Owoyesigyire said and called upon all members of the public to report any suspicious objects in their respective areas.

The 51-kilometre, four-lane road has become a hot spot for robberies and accidents in recent months partly due to the absence of street lights.
