Stolen UPDF Gun Recovered in Kenya

Joint security forces on Thursday recovered a gun that was stolen from a UPDF soldier in Nabilatuk district.  Last week, suspected warriors attacked security forces, killing one soldier before taking his gun.

The gun with 2 live rounds of ammunition, and two magazines, was recovered from West Pokot County.

Maj Isaac Oware, the UPDF 3rd Division Spokesperson said that security forces have been pursuing the suspected cattle rustlers who killed private Bainomigisha Asaph and seized his weapon during a cordon and search operations in areas of Lobunariye village, Kosike sub-county, Nabilatuk district.

Oware said that on Wednesday, another gun which had been stolen by the same warriors was recovered from the home of one of the suspects Kesenyang William Logwe, a resident of Tombolongole village, Kongorok sub-county in Amudat district,

According to Oware, the security forces remain optimistic for more recoveries of arms especially from suspected warriors who commit crimes and run to hide in the areas of Turkana and West Pokot in Kenya.

“We commend the West Pokot County authorities in the Republic of Kenya and local leaders of Amudat district in Uganda for their continued cross-border collaboration mechanism aimed at ensuring security and peace on either side,” Oware said.
