Rwanda hands over body of killed Ugandan trader

The body of a Ugandan trader identified as Justus Kabagame who was shot dead in Rwanda has been handed over to the Ugandan authorities for a decent burial.

The spokesperson Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Charles Twine confirmed that they received the body at Katuna border.

Kabagame a resident of Rutare village, Butanda sub county in Kabale district was last week shot dead by the Rwandan security operatives accusing him of smuggling alcohol and cosmetics into their country.

Kabagame is the 6th Ugandan national to be shot dead in Rwanda ever since Rwanda blocked the movement of cargo from Uganda and barred her nationals from crossing over to their country in March 2019.

Twine expressed his dismay about the way the matter was handled by the Rwandan authorities wondering whether it was necessary to use fire arms in this case.

The Rwandan authorities have always claimed that the shot Ugandans are those who resist arrest and try to fight their security operatives after being intercepted over illegal entry.
