Rev. Godfrey Loum consecrated as 8th Bishop of Northern Uganda

Believers of St. Philip’s Cathedral, Gulu flocked the church on Sunday to witness the consecration of the Rt. Rev. Godfrey Loum as the 8th Bishop of the Diocese of Northern Uganda.

The ceremony was presided over by the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, Dr. Stephen Kaziimba Mugalu and in attendance were several religious, cultural and political leaders.

While preaching during the enthronement, the retired Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, Henry Luke Orombi reminded the new Bishop that storms will always be there but he should be strong because God will help him steer through them.

“In life, there will always be storms but remember Jesus is in the boat with you. Jesus speaks to the wind and calms storms because he is creator God, Almighty God. He brings peace because he is the prince of peace. Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever,” Orombi said.

President Museveni was represented by the Speaker of Parliament, Jacob Oulanyah who appealed to the Acholi to unite but also reclaim their culture of mutual support among the people.

The president donated a brand new vehicle to the newly consecrated Bishop to facilitate his pastoral work and the speaker said this will be delivered early next month.

The newly consecrated Bishop, Rt. Rev. Loum pledged to teach life skills to the youth in a bid to meet their own needs, resolve underlying issues of land grabbing, mentor the youth and children but also partner with the government in its different programs including the parish development mode,l among others.

Rev. Loum is succeeding the Rt. Rev. Johnson Gakumba who was the Northern Uganda Diocese Bishop since 2009.
