Police Arrests 90 People Over Theft in Natete
Police is holding 90 people who were arrested on Tuesday during an operation to clamp down on thugs in areas of Gaza, Mabito. According to the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesgyire, the village has been a hiding place for many thugs who engaged in criminality.
“The suspects have been engaging in crimes like phone theft during rush hours, burglary, and aggravated robbery. Many of their victims have been stabbed and assaulted before being robbed of their property,” Owoyesgyire said in a statement.
The suspects are currently being detained at Natete Police station.
The operation was carried out by joint task teams of police and UPDF.
Exhibits including knives and suspected stolen phones among others were recovered in the operation.
The suspects will be arraigned in courts of law as soon as investigations are complete, according to Owoyesgyire..
