NUP Backs Zaake

The National Unity Platform (NUP) has said they are going to support Mityana Municipality MP Francis Zaake to reclaim his seat as the commissioner of Parliament.

Zaake was recently censured after 155 MPs voted to have him out of the position. He was censured due to alleged misconduct and insulting Deputy Speaker Anita Among.

According to the NUP Secretary-General, Lewis Rubongoya, the process parliament used to throw out Zaake was flawed

“It was just intended to hurt Zaake and NUP supporters’ feelings,” Rubongoya said.

Zaake is currently challenging the decision and his lawyers say there was a breach of the law. “There was supposed to be quorum of not less than 260 members. We wouldn’t want parliament to be treated like a nursery school whereby when someone annoys the Speaker, they are censured,” Lukwago told the press.
