Mukono Father Charged with Attempted Murder, Murder of His Children

Police have slapped attempted murder and murder charges against a security guard who fed his two children poison-laced food. The suspect is Oscar Kusasiira, a private security guard at Ngombere primary school in Mukono district.

Kusasiira allegedly decided to poison his children on Sunday evening following a misunderstanding with his wife, Brenda Arinaitwe. After poisoning the minors, Kusasiira also took poison to end his life but residents and police came to their rescue and rushed him and the older son to a hospital in critical condition.

Kusasiira’s young son, one-year-old Osbert Kusasiira died instantly after consuming the poison-laced food. On Wednesday morning, Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson told URN that Kusasiira and his elder son are out of danger.

He explains that they transferred the suspect from Herona Hospital in Kisoga town council in Mukono municipality to Mulago National Refferal Hospital for further treatment and safe custody. According to Onyango, the suspect is under police protection to prevent him from escaping.

He says police have preferred attempted murder and murder charges against the suspect.

Brenda Arinaitwe says that Kusasiira took away the children from her claiming that he wanted to stay with them in his room at his workstation (school). She notes that his decision to take the children came after a disagreement on who should keep the Shillings 300,000 that she got for digging at one of the resident’s gardens.

“I could not trust my money with him. He has always used every coin at home to drink alcohol without caring whether he has toiled for it. He is a man, but I am charged with the responsibility of feeding and caring for the family,” Arinaitwe notes.

Ronald Ssekitoleko, one of the residents appealed to men to work hard for themselves to avoid gender-related violence.
