Muhoozi’s ‘Retirement’ Was a Prank—Ofwono Opondo
Earlier this week, the commander for Land Forces Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba announced that he had retired from the army. Muhoozi, however, seemed to dismiss the message in the tweet when he appeared in a video with Andrew Mwenda in which he suggested that he would retire in 8 years.
Andrew Mwenda says he drove to Muhoozi’s house immediately he saw the tweet and he was informed that the tweet was made in error by the First Son’s twitter handler.
Speaking during the Front Line show on NBS, the government spokesperson also clarified that Muhoozi has not yet retired.
“Personally, I treated it as a prank because he is very disciplined. Retirement from the army is not announced on social media. There are procedures to retiring from the army. I didn’t take it beyond anything serious other than a prank.”
Muhoozi is yet to formally speak out on the same, neither has he sent out a follow up tweet. The Uganda People’s Defense Force Spokesperson dismissed the retirement claims saying that he was still a serving official and had not applied for retirement.
