Former commander of land forces of Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF), Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has been decorated as a 4 star general.
The first son was pipped by his uncle and national coordinator of Operation Wealth Creation, Gen Salim Saleh and his wife Charlotte Muhoozi at the Bombo Military Barracks.
Muhoozi was last week promoted by his father who doubles to be the president from the country, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni from Liutenant general to general.
The newly appointed UPDF commander of land forces Lt Gen Kayanja Muhanga was also pipped at te same function by Saleh and his wife, before being officially handed office.
Prior to his promotion as the general of UPDF, Muhoozi last week in a series of tweets said he’d would capture Kenya’s capital, Nairobi in less than two weeks.
He quickly followed it with, “Haha, I love my Kenyan relatives, Constitution? Rule of Law? You must be joking! For us there is only the revolution, and you will soon learn about it.”
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs responded to his with a statement reiterating its commitment to good neighborliness, peaceful coexistence and cooperation with Kenya.
The move saw a number of politicians and people question his motive but Muhoozi later clarified his statement revealing that it was just a joke.
Following the damage his tweets made, the commander in chief and president of uganda Museveni, issued a public apology to ‘our brothers and sister of Kenya.’
The statement reads in part, “I ask our Kenyan brothers and sisters to forgive us for tweets sent by General Muhoozi, former commander of land forces here, regarding the election matters in that great country.”
Museveni said it is not right for public officers, be they civilian or military, to comment or interfere in any way in the internal affairs of brother countries. He said such discussions should be handled by the peer-review mechanism of the African Union and not in public comments.
