MP Zaake Loses Parliamentary Commission Seat
Mityana Municipality Member of Parliament (MP) Hon Francis Zaake has been removed from his role as Commissioner of Parliament over indiscipline and misconduct.
A motion to have Zaake censured was adopted after the MP allegedly used his social media to write statements that undermined the Deputy Speaker of Parliament.
Over the past weeks, Parliament’s Committee on Rules, Privileges and Discipline has been investigating Zaake;s into alleged unbecoming conduct and on Thursday, members of parliament was tasked to vote by secret ballot on whether to remove Zaake the office. Out of 161 MPs who participated in the exercise, 155 MPs voted in favor of the motion, with only four voting against it and two votes were invalid.
The vote followed a debate of a report submitted to parliament by the Abdu Katuntu led committee.
The Deputy Speaker has asked the Leader of Opposition, Mathias Mpuga, to submit a new candidate for the role, but Mpuga says Zaake can still appeal.
