Jacob Kiplimo, Uganda’s long-distance star runner and world record holder for the 21km, is set to compete in the upcoming Monaco Diamond League in France on July 21st, 2023.

As the 19th qualifier for Team Uganda in the World Athletics Championships, Kiplimo, a double Commonwealth Gold medalist, will face tough competition from renowned athletes such as Yomiv Kajalcha, Bekele Telehu (Ethiopia), Ahmed Muhammad (Canada), and Kenya’s Martin Kimeli.

After an impressive performance and personal best (PB) of 12:41 in the 5000m race category at the Oslo League, Kiplimo has been training diligently in Kapchorwa under the guidance of his Ugandan coach, Peter Chelangat.

He is scheduled to depart for Oslo on Tuesday, July 18th, 2023. In an interview with Uganda Radio Network, Kiplimo shared that this competition serves as a final preparation for the Budapest World Athletics Championships.

Kiplimo’s coach, Peter Chelangat, emphasized the meticulous preparations leading up to this highly anticipated league, considering it as the last track race before the world championships.

Every coach wants to see their athlete triumph internationally and that’s the reason we are putting eminent efforts to see his dream come true,” said Chelangat.
