Joint Security Recovers Three Guns on Christmas Day

Joint security forces recovered three guns from Karamojong warriors in Kaabong and Napak districts on Christmas day. Col. Richard Obura Kidega, the 403 Brigade Commander says that they recovered an SMG number AB6898 with 04 live rounds, SMG number HR 4400 with nine rounds, and SMG number AEH 4649.

He explained that they recovered one of the guns voluntarily from Lorunget village,  Nakwamoru Parish, Lopei Sub-county in Napak District while the others were forcefully recovered in Lokitelangitak village,  Poron Parish, Poron Sub-county in Kabong district.

”The riffles were recovered in ongoing disarmament operations code-named “Usalama Kwa Wote” translated as “peace for all,” said Kidega. Maj Isaac Oware, the UPDF 3rd division Spokesperson, says the ongoing operation aims at recovering rifles and livestock in Karamoja, Teso, Bugisu, Acholi, and Sebei Subregions.

Joseph Lomonyang, the Napak LC V chairperson, says that there is steady progress in gun recoveries. “It’s a team spirit between the security forces and the leaders of Karamoja sub-region that the gun recovery is positive,” he said. According to UPDF, 169 guns and 860 rounds of live ammunition have been recovered in Karamoja sub-region since May 16, 2022.
