The Inspectorate of Government Ms Beti Kamya has expressed dismay at the ‘obscene’ budget for the burial of former Speaker of Parliament Jacob Oulanyah. It emerged recently that Oulanyah’s burial would cost Ugx2.5bn.
Kamya tweeted on Wednesday that she was horrified by the obscene cash allocated towards the burial.
“The spirit of the departed Jacob Oulanyah must be horrified by the obscene cash bonanza in his funeral expenses. He would not allow it if he had a choice. The IGG will honour him by taking interest in allegations of impropriety in his funeral expenses,” Ms Kamya tweeted.
IGG Spokesperson Ali Munira says a committee is going to be instituted to investigate whether there is impropriety.
The Ministry of Finance, however, adjusted the budget downwards by Shs700m citing unnecessary expenditures.
