I Will Not Allow Oulanyah’s Dreams to Die—Says Minister Oboth Oboth
Minister of State for Defence Jacob Oboth Oboth has joined the growing list of MPs who want to replace Jacob Oulanyah as Speaker after the latter passed on Sunday in Seattle, USA, where he had been flown to receive treatment.
On Monday, Oboth told the press that he was going to formally express his interest and pick forms to vie for Speakership on Tuesday.
One of his motivations he said was the desire to keep Oulanyah’s dreams alive. “Oulanyah might be dead, but I will not allow his dreams for the 11th Parliament die with him,” he told the press.
Oboth will have to retire his role as Minister as the law doesn’t allow Cabinet ministers to contest for Speakership.
Deputy Speaker Anita Among, Theodre Ssekikubo are among others who are said to be moving to contest for the vacant seat.
