Health Minister Jane Ruth Aceng has on Wednesday withdrawn from the Speakership race, according to reports coming in.
Aceng was among 13 MPs who expressed interest in the position of Speaker on Tuesday at the National Resistance Movement head offices in Kampala. The reason for her withdrawal is yet to be revealed.
NRM Electoral Commission Chairperson Dr Tanga Odoi has confirmed this development.
NRM members will meet on Thursday in a caucus meeting to choose a flag bearer, out of the 12 remaining. Opposition is also set to sit in a meeting to front only one candidate with Ssemujju Ibrahim and Asuman Basalirwa expected to participate in the contest. Ibrahim has, however, made it known that he is willing to step aside for Asuman.
