Gunmen Kill Two in Moroto Municipality

Joint security forces are hunting for unknown gunmen who opened fire at the busy Kakolye drinking area in Moroto municipality killing two people instantly. The deceased were returning home after fetching water from a tap.

Micheal Longole, the Karamoja Region police spokesperson, says that the shooting happened at 9 pm on Monday, adding that the motive of the gunmen is still unknown. He promised to give full details about the incident including the names of the deceased.

Godfrey Wamuno, a resident of Kakolye ward in Moroto Municipality, says the resurrection of the killings in Moroto Municipality is likely to affect business since people will start fearing to move at night. “This is an indication that guns have now moved from the villages to the Municipality and security needs to double their operations to get rid of the criminals,” he said.

Timothy Angella, another resident said the gunshot victims are siblings from Bugisu region and have been doing some small business for survival. “We have not understood the motive of the killing and whether or not it was a planned or the killers wanted someone from the same building these people were living,” he said.

On Sunday, suspected warriors ambushed a police patrol vehicle at Loodoi village about 300 meters away from Morulinga presidential state lodge along the Moroto-Soroti highway. Security has not yet arrested any suspects.
