Funeral services ordered to stop using sirens

The Uganda Police Force has ordered funeral services to stop using sirens on their vehicles while on the road. According to Police, transporting the dead is not an emergency.

All funeral service companies have been directed to uninstall the sirens and stop using them while on the road. The companies have been given a one month grace period to voluntarily uninstall the sirens.

According Assistant Commissioner of Police Charles Ssebambulidde, funeral service vehicles cause confusion and noise yet they are not emergency vehicles.

“Yes, we honor the dead and transport them decently, but transportation of a dead person is not an emergency. An emergency is all about saving life. They don’t have right of way and drivers at all times must drive within the rules and regulations of traffic,” Ssebambulidde said.
