Education officials meet today over school reopening

Ministry of Education and Sports is today afternoon meeting stakeholders in the education sector to discuss the reopening of schools. The officials are expected to decide when learning institutions will resume the 2020 academic year.

On August 27th, 2021, the Education Ministry Permanent Secretary, Ketty Lamaro summoned heads of different bodies in the education sector for the virtual meeting.

According to Lamaro, the officials will discuss the government proposal for reopening of education institutions for the academic year 2020.

“The purpose of this communication, therefore is to invite you to a stakeholders’ consultative meeting on the government’s proposal for safe reopening of education institutions for completion of academic year 2020 and progression of learners to the next level,” the letter reads in part.

The officials invited include; Education secretaries of schools foundation bodies, general secretary federation of non- state education institutions in Uganda, general secretary proprietors of private education institutions association, General secretary Uganda National Teachers Union, General Secretary Coalition of Uganda Private Schools Teachers Association and National Private Schools Teachers Association.

President Yoweri Museveni last month instructed that all education institutions must remain closed until all teachers and a category of some students are vaccinated against COVID-19.
