Assault Victim Dies Minutes After Registering Case with Police

A 22-year-old female victim of assault in Gulu City succumbed to her injuries a few minutes this morning after reporting a case to the Police in Bardege-Layibi Division.

Sharon Lamaro, a resident of Bucoro village in Awach Sub-county reportedly died at Gulu Regional Referral Hospital 30 minutes after recording an assault case at the Bus Terminal Police post. 

According to police reports, the deceased sustained the injuries after one, Bosco Kidega hit her on the forehead with a piece of timber at about 3 Am on Wednesday morning during a brawl. It is alleged that Lamaro sustained the injuries while trying to quell a fight between her boyfriend Godfrey Onen and Kidega who had all been drinking alcohol at Juba stage along sir Samuel baker road.

The Aswa River Region Police Spokesperson David Ongom Mudong, says that after the incident, the deceased was rushed on foot to a nearby pharmacy for emergency treatment before being advised to register the case with the Police.

Mudong says that Lamaro, who was accompanied by her boyfriend later walked to the Bus Terminal Police post a short distance away from the Pharmacy and filed an assault case vide SD Ref bus terminal 03/08/2/2023.  According to Mudong, police later referred the deceased to Gulu Regional Referral Hospital for treatment but she died half an hour after arrival. He says the police have since arrested the suspect who assaulted her and detained him at Gulu Central Police station as police conduct further investigation.

The deceased body is still lying at the Gulu Regional Referral Hospital morgue pending postmortem to ascertain the exact cause of death.
