Another Gun Recovered in Albertine Region

Police in the Albertine region has recovered a gun that was stolen from a private security guard in Hoima city.

The rifle registration number UG Pol 303-65933107928 was recovered with two rounds of ammunition on Tuesday hidden in a culvert in Bulindi village Kyambigambire sub-county, Hoima district.

The gun was reportedly robbed from Eunice Kobusingye 28, a private security guard attached to Uganda Securiko company limited on November 28th,2022. She had been deployed to guard Kaaka Spare World Shop along Wright Road in Hoima City when the thugs reportedly raided the shop and took off with the gun.

Preliminary police investigations then indicated that the guard was asleep at the time the thugs raided the shop.

Julius Hakiza, the Albertine Region Police Spokesperson told Uganda Radio Network in an interview on Wednesday that police were alerted by some members of the community who saw the ammunition in a culvert along the Hoima-Masindi road.

They immediately swung into action and picked the gun from the culvert adding that they later established that it was the exact gun robbed from the private security guard in Hoima city on November 28th.

Hakiza has cautioned residents in possession of illegal guns in the region to voluntarily surrender them before tougher action is taken against them.

This is the second gun to be recovered in the Albertine in a period of six days. On Friday, the Police flying squad attached to the Albertine recovered a gun and arrested four suspects.

The gun registration number URJ3106 was recovered from Nkondo landing site in Kabwoya sub-county in Kikuube district.

The suspects arrested on accusation of illegal possession of the firearm have since been identified as Hassan Isingoma 20, John Kabagambe 38, Doreen Bammuhiiga 17 all residents of Ntoroko, and Rashid Byaruhanga 19, a resident of Kyenjojo. They have since been detained at Kikuube central police station.

The suspects were arrested after police received intelligence that had a gun that they were using to rob residents in the area.

When the flying squad operatives raided the area, they recovered an AK 47 riffle registration number URJ3106 from the suspects while at the landing site. The gun didn’t have any rounds of ammunition at the time it was recovered.
