Deputy Speaker Anita Among has her eyes set for the Speakership post, Mazima has learnt. Among is expected to pick nomination forms from the NRM Secretariat on Tuesday, according to the National Resistance Caucus vice-chairperson Herbert Kinobere.
On Monday, the government announced that Parliament will convene on Friday to elect a new Speaker. A number of MPs are showing interest.
NRM, which has the majority number of MPs, will hold a caucus meeting on Thursday to make a decision on who to front for the role.
Other political parties have also been put to notice to participate in the Speakership race.
Others that are said to be interested in the Speakership are; Disaster Preparedness and Refugees Hillary Onek (Palabek), State minister for Sports Denis Hamson Obua (Ajuri), and State minister for Defence Jacob Oboth Oboth (West Budama South).
Ministers are expected to resign from their current roles to be able to participate.
