Among Asks MPs to Contribute Money to Help Oulanyah’s Children Continue With School
Speaker of Parliament Anita Among has asked Members of Parliament to unite on the issue of raising funds to educate the late Jacob Oulanyah’s children and others he supported.
On Sunday, over 120 students assembled at a vigil in Muyenga and said they had been receiving financial assistance from the late Speaker. The students attend Seroma Christian High School in Mukono. They told mourners that they were worried about their future.
While addressing the attendees at the vigil, Among told made a plea to legislators present that they should contribute to keep the students in school.
“The children of Jacob, we want to pledge to you, we as Parliament of Uganda we have an additional responsibility towards Jacob’s children. You are our children as Parliament,” Among said.
Chief Justice Alfonse Owiny Dollo said a trust fund had been set up to take care of the education of the students.
“We have set up the Jacob Oulanyah Education Trust Fund which I am privileged to chair. It is our vow, our determination that Oulanyah’s children may not be able to see him now, but their dreams, pursuit of education will continue as if he was alive,” Owiny- Dollo relayed.
