Redeploy All Kilembe Mines Hospital Staff, Kasese CAO to DHO

The Chief Administrative Officer-CAO for Kasese Elias Byamungu has directed the district health officer-DHO to immediately process the redeployment of all appointed staff of Kilembe Mines Hospital-KMH to other health units in the district.

The directive of the CAO follows a decision by the ministry of health to halt operations of Kilembe mines hospital by withdrawing any government support.

In a statement issued this week, by the minister of health Jane Ruth Aceng Acero noted that Kilembe Mines is situated along River Nyamwamba catchment area with a history of recurrent strong floods and they cannot continue providing funds to the hospital that is prone to recurrent destruction.

In his other communication dated 3rd/February/2023 addressed to the Kilembe Mines Hospital superintendent, Byamungu asked the superintendent to prepare details of the staff who have been posted at the facility for re-deployment, arrange to clear arrears of other staff whose contracts under the tripartite agreement were not paid up to the end of the agreement and process payment of all liabilities.

The CAO also ordered KMH to stop fund requisitions and cancel all existing local purchase orders.

According to a statement by the minister of health, the government will construct a Health Centre III in Bulembia Division, Kasese municipality, instead of revamping KMH and subsequently Rukoki Health Centre IV will also be upgraded to district hospital status to improve access to health services.
