Mulago Hospital is where most universities in Uganda send their students to train in medical work. This, according to Makerere University Vice-Chancellor, Prof Barnabas Nawangwe, has over the years led to congestion at the hospital. It is against this basis that Makerere has now requested Shs.300 billion to construct a teaching hospital and dental hospital at the university.
This university included the request in the Budget Framework Paper for the financial year 2022/2023, tabled before Parliament.
Makerere also intends to construct a business and innovation centre and to realize the dream, the university wants 80 billion for the construction.
The University also wants Shs 12 billion to improve staff units, 40 billion for the accommodation of graduate students and 5.6 billion to help with promotion of staff.
