Health Centre In-Charge On the Run for Theft of Drugs

The police in Kiira region is hunting for David Kasete, the in-charge of Buwolero health center II, for alleged theft of government drugs.

This follows complaints from residents who informed the Jinja Resident District Commissioner, Elijah Madoi, about the lack of medical supplies for the last three quarters.

Scovia Mbatya, a resident says that the health facility lacks basic healthcare services ranging from maternal care, vaccines, and antimalarial drugs.

Mbatya adds that health workers refer patients to buy drugs from private health facilities and claim that the facility no longer receives drugs from National Medical Stores-NMS.

According to Madoi, records from the district health department indicate that the health center received drugs for the past three quarters. He adds that Kasete – who’s the in-charge of the facility refused to submit returns indicating drugs that were supplied to the facility in November.

James Mubi, the Kiira Regional Police Spokesperson says that they recovered anti-malarials, family planning pills, injectable medicines, and pieces of cotton wool, among other items from Kasete’s shop.
