Causalities in Rubanda Ambulance Crash Named

Police have named the causalities of an ambulance crash in Rubanda district on Saturday evening.

The crash happened at around 06:00 PM at Ntaraga village, Ikumba sub county, Rubanda district along the feeder road of Kagunga connecting one of Kisoro-Kabale highway.

According to police, the crash occurred when a Toyota Land Cruiser ambulance registration number UAL 194J T attached to Kiizi Health center III of Kabale diocese was rushing a referred expectant mother to Kabale regional referral hospital lost control, veered off the road and overturned several times.       

Alamanzani Wakatuma , Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Rubanda District Police officer in charge of  traffic has identified the causalities as Wilson Byomugabe ( 45) driver of the ambulance, Brandina Busingye (25) midwife at Kiizi Health center III, Brandina Nyinaguhigwa the expectant mother and a resident of Kashasha village, Kashasha parish, lkumba sub county, her two-year-old daughter Anociate Niwamanya and Veneranda Ntegyerezi (52) a mother-in-law to Nyirahugigwa. 

Elly Maate, police spokesperson for Kigezi region says that all the casualties are admitted at Kabale regional referral hospital.  According to Maate, preliminary investigations attribute the cause of the accident to over speeding.  

He adds that the wreckage of the ambulance was towed to Rubanda police station for inspection.  The case is registered at Rubanda police station under file number TAR 015/2023.
