Former MP, Kato Lubwama Dead

Former Member of Parliament of Rubaga South, Kato Lubwama also known as Kato Lubwama Mivule is Dead.

The celebrated actor and comedian reportedly passed away in the early hours of Wednesday at Stana Medical Centre in Bunamwaya.

His death was first announced by local events promoter Andrew Mukasa alias Bajjo Events.

The former MP allegedly succumbed to heart complications that he has battled with for a long time. Kato Lubwama rose to fame in the 1990s as the founder of Diamonds Ensemble, a theatre company credited with reviving the art form in Uganda.

Lubwama later transitioned to radio and became well-known for his work on CBS FM Kalisoliso program, where he formed a successful partnership with fellow actors Abby Mukiibi and Patrick Mujuuka.

In 2016, he ventured into politics and was elected as a member of parliament for the Rubaga South constituency.

He is well known for his sarcastic reply when he was asked why he was not vocal in parliament, “I came to eat.” Implying that his decision to seek a parliamentary seat was purely to advance his business interests and not serve his constituents.

In 2021, Lubwama lost his parliamentary seat to Aloysius Mukasa
