Minister Muyingo Asks Schools to Suspend Use of Smartphones

The State Minister for Higher Education, Dr Chrysostom Muyingo has ordered schools that have rolled out use of smartphones in schools to stop. Muyingo made the directive this week while addressing journalists at the Ministry of Education offices in Kampala.

Muyingo said smartphones can only be used if there is a policy to regulate them. Schools like Nakasero Secondary School and Kololo Secondary School are among a few that have adopted the usage of smartphones to facilitate learning.

Muyingo acknowledges that the smartphones are a good tool to enable better learning but without the regulatory policy, there will be negative consequences.

He said the government is going to come up with a holistic policy regulating their usage in learning.
