The latest update coming in indicates that MutiChoice has increased DSTV and GoTv subscription fees by 6%.

According to Joan Semanda, the Public Relations and Communications Manager at MultiChoice, they have decided to hike the fees due to a tough operating climate for the business. The new rates will be implemented starting September 1, 2021, Mazima has established.

“I can confirm that both DSTV and GOTV have adjusted the prices of some of it’s packages for 2021. We have taken into account the rate of consumer inflation and current economic pressures facing Ugandans when considering the annual price adjustments,” she revealed.

“The updated fee schedule sees adjustments of an average of 6% for the DSTV and GOTV customers. DSTV and GOTV acknowledges their Ugandan customers, and consumers in general, remain under extreme pressure and have endeavoured to keep increases below inflation where possible,”  She added.

For instance, subscribers to GOTV Lite will pay a monthly fee of sh13,000 in September from  the previously charged sh12,000. If you’re paying for the GOTV Lite for three months (quarterly) you will be charged sh31,000 up, from sh28,000.

Meanwhile, DSTV premium now goes for sh239,000 up, from sh227,000. The cheapest package on the DSTV will now go for sh37,000 up, from sh35,000.

According to Uganda Communications Commission, the subscription TV market has understandably realized minimal infrastructure investments in the last quarter of 2020 largely on account of revenue pressures occasioned by reduced household revenues during the pandemic.
