Following a fire outbreak at Hima cement factory in Kasese on Saturday, the company’s country Chief Executive Officer, Jean-Micheal Pons, has suspended operations at the factory.
The fire claimed three lives and left eight others in critical condition.
According to a statement by the CEO, operations have particularly been suspended to take stock of the incident and to ensure the fire is fully contained.
He emphasises in the statement that the safety of employees is their first priority.

The fire is said to have broken out while a team was doing installation works at the light diesel oil tank.
The fire was put out by Hima fire responders with assistance from UPDF and Uganda Police Fire Brigade.
Ismail Kaawo, the Rwenzori East Police Spokesperson says that investigating the real cause of the fire outbreak, but preliminary findings indicate that it was ignited by sparks from welders that were working near the oil tanks.
